Wear your clothes
Do you know the 30 wears rule or challenge?
I didn’t, even though I’ve lived by it for many years, maybe even my whole life. The rule applies to all your clothes, underwear, shoes and accessories which MUST be worn at least 30 times.
So, every purchase either online or in a shop, must be worn 30 times before you discard it or hand it in in a second hand shop. This rule was originally from Livia Firth, an influencer in the sustainable clothing business. Livia has been a speaker at the Copenhagen Fashion Week. Why it’s exactly 30 times, is still a riddle to me. Maybe most clothes are worn out after 30 times wear and wash. But you don’t necessarily wash all types of clothes after each use. I do believe you can wear much cloths much longer, at least that is what I do.
Next shopping spree
Next time you go clothes shopping – typically not because you need anything, but because you are bored – some considerations should be in the back of your mind. It’s very important to look what you already has in the closet, before buying new – EVERY TIME. In order to get an overview of what you we have in our closets, there are some handy apps to help you. I’ve been looking into several of these apps and can recommend 30 Wears to help you get your closet sorted.
Simply download the app and take photos of all your clothes, shoes and accessories. Every time you put on something else, keep the app updated and you easily get an overview of what’s used and not.
Consideration when shopping:
Consider these things, next time you go shopping.
- Do you already have something similar in your wardrobe?
- Can you use it with your existing wardrobe?
- Is the garment of such a high quality it will least at least 30 times wear and washing?
- Is the garment so classical you can use it for at least the next year or longer?
